Is CBD Oil the New Anti-inflammatory Medication?

Classic anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen, aspirin, naproxen, and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), have been the most commonly used medications used to help reduce inflammation and decrease pain. The types of pain people experience are in part, due to inflammation in the body. The body releases certain chemicals in the state of stress and injury that leads to chronic inflammation and consequently results in the perception of pain.

However, NSAIDs work on only a small subset of chemicals in the body to decrease inflammation, and many people who take them find that it does not adequately relieve the pain they’re experiencing. As with many medications, long-term use of NSAIDs can lead to many negative side effects, such as decreased protective lining in the stomach leading to ulcers including damage to the liver and kidneys.

When patients have switched over to CBD oil as an alternative remedy for inflammation alone, they have found a significant and tangible reduction in pain that is longer lasting than NSAIDs. This is because CBD decreases inflammation in the body on multiple levels compared to normal medications, allowing for a greater reduction in inflammation and pain concurrently. Since CBD works on different pathways in the body, there is no damage to the lining of the stomach, kidneys or liver with long-term use.

Although there is still a lack of significant clinical research trials due to the previous legislation affecting cannabis research, CBD oil is shaping up to be the new super anti-inflammatory alternative medication.
